Blog Summary: The Endocannabinoid System, Omega Balance, and Perfect by Design

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is your body’s master regulator, influencing pain, mood, immune response, sleep, and energy.

Most doctors are never taught the ECS — yet it’s central to human health and function.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats fuel your ECS. The right ratio (1:1–1:4) keeps you in balance; modern diets overload Omega-6 (20:1+), driving inflammation.

Not all seed oils are bad. Black seed, cranberry, chia, and flax support ECS health; industrial oils like corn and soy drive imbalance.

Chronic inflammation is largely a result of poor Omega-3/6 balance — contributing to 80% of modern disease.

Cannabis is a “master screwdriver” for the ECS (CBDA, THC, terpenes), but diet is the foundation.

You were not born broken. You were born Perfect by Design — but modern diets, stress, and infection hijack your ECS.

Chip & Cindy Paul hold U.S. Patent 10,646,535 on modulating the ECS, and teach people how to restore balance through education, supplements, and lifestyle.

Introduction: The Missing System in Modern Health

Hello everybody, and welcome to another version of Chip Talks Health. Today we’re diving into one of the most important things you can learn about your body — the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

If you’ve heard of cannabis, you’ve probably heard people mention the ECS in passing. But I want you to put cannabis aside for a minute. The endocannabinoid system is not about marijuana — it’s about you. It’s about how your body was designed to regulate, repair, and heal itself.

Here’s the problem: most doctors, PhDs, and dietitians have never been taught this system. It’s not in medical school curriculum. And that’s insane, because the ECS is your master regulatory system. It controls your nervous system, your immune system, your digestion, even the energy status of your cells.

So let’s talk about how the ECS works, why Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats are critical, and how we can reclaim our health by remembering we were designed perfectly — not broken.

What Is the Endocannabinoid System?

Think of the ECS as the body’s communication and balancing network. It’s made up of endocannabinoids (molecules your body makes), receptors (like CB1 and CB2), and enzymes that build or break those molecules down.

  • ECS helps regulate pain, inflammation, sleep, mood, memory, appetite, and immune response.

  • It connects with every organ and every cell in your body.

  • Scientists have found ECS receptors not just on nerve cells, but on mitochondria (your cell’s power plants) and even organelles inside cells.

That means the ECS isn’t just “part” of how you work — it’s central to everything.

Why Doctors Don’t Teach It (Yet)

You’d think if science discovered a master system that controls your nervous system, every medical school would be rushing to teach it, right? Nope.

Here’s the truth: pharma doesn’t want it taught. There’s no drug model for giving people the knowledge that their body already knows how to heal. So the Endocannabinoid System gets a few hours of lecture time in pharmacology, and that’s it.

That’s why I teach this — because you deserve to know how your body works.

Dietary Fats: The Fuel of Your Endocannabinoid System

Here’s something you may not know: your diet directly drives your ECS.

There are four main types of fats we eat:

  1. Saturated fats (animal products, dairy, avocados) → Inflammatory

  2. Monounsaturated fats (olive oil, avocado, animal products) → Anti-inflammatory

  3. Omega-6 fats (corn oil, soy, safflower, canola) → Inflammatory

  4. Omega-3 fats (fish, chia, flax, walnuts, hemp) → Anti-inflammatory

The last two — Omega-3 and Omega-6 — are essential fats. Your body can’t make them. And they are the most important drivers of your ECS.

As soon as these fats hit your digestive tract, your body starts turning them into endocannabinoids. These molecules then tell your brain whether you’re in a balanced state or in trouble.

Dietary Fats: The Fuel of Your Endocannabinoid System

The Omega-3/6 Problem

Here’s the kicker: our modern diet is completely out of balance.

  • Historically (paleo/Mediterranean diets), humans ate Omega-3 to Omega-6 in about a 1:1 to 1:4 ratio.

  • Today, the average American eats closer to 1:20 or 1:40.

That means we’re programming our ECS into a constant inflammatory, reactive state. And inflammation is the common denominator in 80% of modern disease.

This is why you hear so much about “seed oils.” Not all seed oils are bad — black seed, cranberry seed, chia, flax — these are incredibly helpful. But industrial oils like corn, soy, safflower, and canola? They overload you with Omega-6.

Free Resource: The Omega-3/6 Alarm White Paper

If you want the deep dive, I’ve teamed up with Dr. Artemis Simopoulos — the researcher who pioneered Omega-3/6 balance science — to write a free white paper called the Omega-3/6 Alarm.

In it, we explain:

  • The science behind Omega-3/6 ratios

  • Practical swaps you can make today

  • How these fats directly fuel your ECS

Dr. Artemis Simoupolos addressing the imbalance of omega 3 & 6 in our western diet.

Inflammation, Pain, and the ECS

When your Omega balance is off, your ECS makes the wrong signals. Here’s how that looks:

  • Too much Omega-6 → more PGE2 prostaglandins (these cause inflammation and pain).

  • Balanced Omega-3 → more PGE3 prostaglandins (these promote healing).

That’s why people who eat high Omega-6 diets are more prone to pain, autoimmunity, and chronic disease.

It’s also why cannabis constituents like CBDA can safely block pain pathways (the COX enzymes), without the damage of ibuprofen or Tylenol. Cannabis is like a screwdriver that can adjust the ECS — but diet is the foundation.

The ECS as Master Regulator

Here’s the amazing part: your ECS regulates not just cells, but organs and rhythms.

  • Around 10am and 3pm, CB1 receptors increase in the gut → you feel hungry.

  • Around 11am–1pm, your body is set to repair your heart. Eat lunch then, and you shift energy away from repair.

  • Around 7pm, the ECS cues liver repair.

Even your circadian rhythm — syncing with the sun — is mediated by ECS signals.

That’s how deep this runs.

Perfect by Design: You Were Not Born Broken

When Cindy and I wrote our book, Perfect by Design: Reclaiming Health, we wanted to give people the bigger framework.

What if your body wasn’t broken — but hijacked?

  • Infections like H. pylori and parasites disrupt your cellular “collective.”

  • Modern diets overload Omega-6 and disconnect your ECS.

  • Stress pushes you into fight-or-flight and burns out your regulatory system.

But here’s the truth: God built a system that was perfect by design. Every cell has intelligence. The ECS is the master communication network that unites it all.

When we restore ECS balance — through fasting, clean diet, Omega-3/6 harmony, and God’s natural pharmacopeia (herbs, terpenes, cannabinoids) — healing happens.

Why This Matters Now

We’re in a health crisis because we’ve ignored the very system designed to protect us.

Here’s why you should care:

  • The ECS is your master regulator.

  • The Omega-3/6 balance you eat every single day determines whether you inflame or heal.

  • Cannabis is one tool — but it’s not the whole system.

  • Pharma and FDA won’t teach you this — but you can learn it.

And this isn’t just theory. Cindy and I hold U.S. Patent 10,646,535 for modulating the endocannabinoid system to achieve desired health and wellness effects. We’ve built TrueMedX products and Neighborly Wellness services around this knowledge.

FAQ: The Endocannabinoid System and Omega Balance

What is the endocannabinoid system (ECS)?

The ECS is the body’s master regulatory system. It’s a network of receptors, endocannabinoids, and enzymes that control balance in mood, pain, immune response, digestion, and cellular energy.

Why haven’t I heard about the ECS from my doctor?

Most medical schools don’t teach it. Despite being discovered in the 1990s, the ECS is largely ignored by mainstream medicine because it doesn’t fit the pharma business model.

How do Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats affect the ECS?

These essential fats are the raw materials for endocannabinoids. A balanced ratio (1:1–1:4) supports healing and regulation; today’s average diet is closer to 1:20, fueling chronic inflammation.

Are all seed oils bad for ECS health?

No. Oils like black seed, cranberry, chia, and flax are beneficial. The harmful ones are industrial oils (corn, soy, safflower, canola) that overwhelm you with Omega-6.

Does cannabis fix the ECS?

Cannabis compounds like CBDA, THC, and terpenes can help fine-tune ECS signaling, especially for pain and inflammation. But they’re tools — the real foundation is diet and fat balance.

What is Perfect by Design about?

It’s Chip and Cindy Paul’s book explaining how the ECS shows we were created perfectly — not broken. It explores how infections, diet, and stress hijack our system, and how to restore harmony naturally.
